Class Descriptions

Ashtanga Yoga is a system of yoga transmitted to the modern world by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009). This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind. All levels are invited to join as modifications are made for those who are beginning and those who are ready for the next challenge. The Saturday class is the 1/2 series and lasts 90 minutes long. Please bring water, a yoga mat, and a towel with you.
Bhakti Yoga

Bhakti Yoga Bhakti refers to the yoga of love and devotion.  Yogis who practice this branch open their hearts and encourage love and acceptance for all things.  These yoga classes are taught as vinyasa, a flowing sequence of yoga poses that take us deeper into the practice with time, using a synthesis of the movements between body, breath and heart.  The classes are conducted in a warm environment and focus on core, balance and strength.  While these classes are all levels, some experience with yoga is recommended.  Each class is 90 minutes long. Please bring a mat, towel, and water.

Moksha Yoga  is a series of asanas (poses) taught in a heated room.  Its founders were longtime students of Bikram Choudhury, and have developed a yoga practice and philosophy which perfectly compliments Bikram’s own series.  The Moksha Yoga series is a sequence of postures designed to be consistent, accessible, challenging, healthy, fun!, and relaxing.  Much time and research was invested into designing a series of poses which opens and strengthens the entire body.  The sequence was also designed to be accessible to people at all levels of physical ability.   Slightly less hot than Bikram Yoga, and with more emphasis on “core” muscles and hip-opening, Moksha Yoga will improve both your Bikram practice and your  overall sense of well-being.Each class is 70 minutes long. Please bring water, a yoga mat, and a towel with you.

Yin Yoga
Suitable for almost all levels of students, Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles. Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice.Yin yoga encourages long held floor poses to enhance the Chi or energy distribution through the Yin parts of the body, namely the bones and connective tissues that bind them. These mainly static postures coax Chi into the respective Meridians (the unseen riverbeds of energy the Chi travels through), thereby encouraging a kind of needle-less acupuncture treatment. This style of practice, done slowly and safely, nourishes the natural range of motion of the joints, It also flushes the meridians housed in these connective tissues, which directly effect/enhance particular organs in the process.  http://www.yogajournal.com/practice/580
